In recent years, with the development of electromagnetic compatibility (EMC), Electromagnetic shielding technology is widely used in the world.

Electromagnetic shielding is one of the main measures in EMC technology. It involves enclosing the electromagnetic interference (EMI) source with metal shielding materials to ensure the external electromagnetic field intensity is below the permissible level. Alternatively, it involves enclosing electromagnetic-sensitive circuits with metal shielding materials to keep the internal electromagnetic field intensity within allowable limits.

When there is a need for ventilation, light transmission or measurement, holes should be opened on the equipment casing. To enhance the electromagnetic shielding effectiveness of the equipment,metal wire mesh are used. The wire mesh is used at the seams of electronic equipment enclosures to provide effective electromagnetic shielding. The shielding effectiveness (SE), measured in decibels (dB), depends on factors such as the frequency of the electromagnetic waves, and the size and number of the openings.

 

Commonly used metal wire mesh shielding materials:

 

1. All-Metal Wire Mesh Gasket

An all-metal wire mesh gasket is a flexible, conductive, knitted metal gasket strip used at the seams of electronic equipment enclosures to provide effective electromagnetic shielding. For enclosures made of cast or machined components, rectangular cross-section metal wire mesh gaskets are recommended, while enclosures made of sheet metal should use round cross-section wire mesh gaskets. The compression ratio is typically about 25% of the original height.

2. Environmental Sealed Metal Wire Mesh Gasket

This gasket combines knitted wire mesh and rubber, offering not only effective electromagnetic shielding but also reliable environmental sealing. It is suitable for fixed or movable seams in electronic equipment enclosures, such as door gaps. The typical compression ratio is around 25% of the original height.

3. Metal Wire Mesh Shielded Glass

Metal wire mesh shielded glass consists of metal wire mesh sandwiched between two layers of glass. It provides effective electromagnetic shielding while maintaining light transmission, making it ideal for observation windows in electronic equipment, such as meters, digital or graphic displays

4. Aluminum Honeycomb Ventilation Panel

An aluminum honeycomb ventilation panel is composed of aluminum honeycomb structures within an aluminum frame. The waveguide-like honeycomb design offers excellent electromagnetic shielding efficiency while allowing high airflow. It is suitable for ventilation openings in electronic equipment.
